The 2021 Program Committee for the 2021 Martin Luther King, Jr. Commemoration invites submission of programs for inclusion in the publicity materials for the University Commemoration. The committee welcomes submissions from student organizations, academic departments, colleges, and administrative units.

The theme for 2021 will be “We Cannot Walk Alone.” Although the legacy of Dr. King and the Civil Rights Movement will be honored, the committee is broadening the focus to include many other groups and individuals that played a significant role in establishing first-class citizenship. Groups may include the Brown Berets, the American Indian Movement, Stonewall, and so many lesser and unknown individuals who deserve to be included in this celebration.

Submissions should represent opportunities to reflect on Dr. King’s legacy, historical and contemporary issues relevant to human and civil rights, and the moral foundations of equity, equality, and social justice.

The commemoration will take place starting January 18, 2021. The committee is looking to have programming throughout the last two weeks of January, however.

Please note that, for inclusion in official university publicity, submissions should be made no later than December 8. Late submissions may still be included in website program listings.
