The COVID-19 pandemic has affected faculty research, teaching, and service in multiple ways. As a result, faculty in the College of Liberal Arts and Human Sciences who complete a Faculty Activity Report (FAR) may wish to provide a context of the pandemic’s impact on their activities in 2020. 

The college’s Office of the Dean offers the following guidance:

  • Faculty members are encouraged to list presentations, manuscript/proposal submission reviews, research travel, and/or funding that were scheduled or expected but subsequently cancelled (or delayed) due to COVID-19. Virtual presentations should also be listed. Additional details can be found here.
  • Reporting SPOT scores for courses taught in calendar year 2020 is at the discretion of the faculty member; see here, Instructional Faculty Information/Student perceptions of Teaching Evaluations, for details. 
  • The impact of COVID-19 on teaching may be included in Section II.H., II.O., or elsewhere in Section II of the college’s FAR, as appropriate.
  • The impact of COVID-19 on service — such as reduced service and outreach to the university, to professional organizations, and to the broader community — may be noted in Section III.G. and Section IV.F., or elsewhere in these sections, as appropriate.
  • Faculty members may submit a COVID-19 statement along with their FAR that describes research, teaching, and service challenges and opportunities attributable to the pandemic. The recommended length is one page, and the statement should address impacts not noted in the FAR.

 

Faculty with additional questions are encouraged to consult with their chair, head, or director.
