The Virginia Tech Center for Humanities invites applications for two funding opportunities: the National Endowment for the Humanities’ Summer Stipends National Competition, and the Virginia Tech Center for Humanities 2021 Faculty Summer Stipends.

NEH Summer Stipends National Competition
The Virginia Tech Center for Humanities is currently accepting proposals from any full-time faculty member at Virginia Tech (non-tenure and tenure faculty are all eligible), to be considered for nomination to the National Endowment for the Humanities (NEH) national competition for a summer stipend ($6,000) for summer 2021.

Non-tenure-track faculty may apply directly to the NEH and do not require institutional nomination. Tenure-track faculty must apply through this internal application process at Virginia Tech in order to be nominated for the national competition.

The internal deadline for proposals to be received by the Center for Humanities for the NEH summer stipend national competition is September 14, 2020. (Please note this deadline occurs before the NEH’s external deadline for receiving the proposal.)

The Center for Humanities will notify nominated faculty to submit their applications to the NEH ahead of the funding agency’s external deadline.

Proposals must contain the following:

  • Project narrative (maximum of three single-spaced pages)
  • Bibliography (one-page maximum)
  • CV (two-page maximum)
  • Appendix (optional, two-page maximum) for translations, scholarly editions, and digital projects

All faculty interested in the NEH summer stipend should submit a proposal by clicking here or by pasting the following URL into their browser: https://forms.gle/Y8aAR8XGB4Jt2i6i9.
