We combine the liberal arts’ passion for exploration with a land grant institution’s sense of civic engagement and the technology of a top public research university. Our programs in the arts, humanities, and human and social sciences prepare students to lead in the 21st century with a boldly humanistic perspective.

When it comes to community engagement and service, our college represents the university motto Ut Prosim (That I May Serve) with pride. Through our 16 centers, we address real-world issues concerning children and elders, families, education, technology, careers, housing, and culture. The research pursued here by faculty and students makes an impact in our local community and around the world.

Top-Notch Teaching Faculty

We work with faculty who are as well known for their teaching as they are for research. Our faculty includes three University Distinguished Professors and five of the university's 10 Alumni Distinguished Professors, along with dozens of award-winning teachers who guide students through a strong liberal arts education.

Leading-Edge Facilities

In addition to the Moss Arts Center, the university's new cornerstone for the arts on campus, we have the most advanced digital music facilities on the East Coast, an experimental performance space, a complete television production studio, a 5,000-piece historic costume collection, a kitchen design center, a child development center for learning and research, and a computer graphics laboratory.
