Winners of college-level Certificates of Teaching Excellence over the past two years and the current year (2018–19, 2019–20, and 2020–21) are eligible for the university-level Alumni Award for Excellence in Teaching. Two awards are given each year, with recipients receiving a cash award of $2,000 and induction into the Academy of Teaching Excellence.

To be considered for the Alumni Award for Excellence in Teaching, applicants must submit a teaching dossier to the Alumni Teaching Award Selection Committee. Dossiers from previous years will not be automatically resubmitted.

The dossiers must follow the Dossier Guidelines of the Academy of Teaching Excellence. The Alumni Teaching Award Rubric provides an example of the activities, materials, and evidence the committee will discuss in the selection process.

Dossiers of each college’s nominee must be submitted electronically, in PDF format, to Sharon Johnson (spjohnso@vt.edu), by 5 p.m. on February 5, 2021. Johnson, an associate professor of French and Francophone studies in the Department of Modern and Classical Languages and Literatures, is chair of the 2020–21 Alumni Award Excellence in Teaching Selection Committee.

Those who have won the Alumni Teaching Award in the past or another Academy of Teaching Excellence university-level teaching award in the past seven years are not eligible.
