Andy Hobin

Andy Hobin teaches Playwriting, Introduction to Creative Writing, and First-Year Writing. He has taught writing and public speaking for Virginia Tech's Upward Bound program since 2012, and he also serves on Upward Bound hiring committees. Andy will give his talk, “Down with Friendly, Up with Nice” in August 2026 for the Virginia Tech Center for Excellence in Teaching and Learning's fall faculty symposium on practical strategies for student engagement. While an undergraduate at Webster University, Andy won multiple national and state championships in forensics (speech and debate). He previously taught at Radford University and New River Community College. Prior to earning his MFA in Creative Writing at Virginia Tech in 2013, Andy worked in New York City for the BBC, MTV Networks, and Lifetime Networks.
