Excellence in Practical Education

The Career and Technical Education (CTE) Program prepares teachers, administrators, and teacher educators for the in-demand field of CTE.

The program offers an M.S.Ed. degree for three different audiences. Our graduate initial licensure teacher preparation program is offered on our Blacksburg campus, featuring four CTE license specialization tracks: Agricultural Education, Business & Information Technology, Family & Consumer Sciences, and Marketing Education.

Our programs for provisionally licensed teachers are offered online, and address the needs of CTE educators working in the fields of Agricultural Education, Business & Information Technology, Family & Consumer Sciences, Health & Medical Sciences, Marketing Education, and Trade and Industrial Education.

Our professional development programs offer current CTE teachers the opportunity to expand their areas of expertise, and earn either their M.S.Ed. or an Ed.S.

Our Ed.S. offering is intended for experienced CTE teachers who have already earned a master’s degree in education seeking to expand their career into administration, curriculum development, supervision or extension.

CUTTING-EDGE, RELEVANT, RIGOROUS PROGRAM

Today’s cutting-edge, rigorous and relevant Career and Technical Education Program prepares educators for high-skill in-demand careers in established and emerging industries. You learn how to teach your secondary students problem-solving, project completion, research, communication, time management, and critical thinking skills as they are prepared for the future. CTE is consistently identified as an area of critical shortage for teachers in the Commonwealth of Virginia.

We offer small cohorts and high student/professor interaction, opportunities for scholarship and research, and a commitment to diversity and equity. The program serves students from the Commonwealth of Virginia, and through outreach programs, the country and the world.

Reimagining the future begins with practices that put educational excellence, innovation, and equity at the fore. At the Virginia Tech School of Education, you will develop the knowledge, skills, and dispositions necessary to contribute to individual and community well-being, conduct groundbreaking research, and engage with learning communities around the globe.

As a global catalyst for individual transformation, we’re pushing the boundaries of knowledge and practice to reimagine a more equitable and just world.
