Inspire the Next Generation

Science is exploration and discovery

Play a critical role in developing scientifically-literate citizens who are critical thinkers and problem solvers.

Foster cross-disciplinary skills and knowledge

Be on the leading edge of innovation and change by supporting students in using their knowledge and skills to support advancements in their communities and in the larger global society.

The Virginia Tech Science Education Program is designed to prepare science educators for teaching science through inquiry processes where students apply their knowledge in real world contexts. Teachers also learn how to cultivate learning environments that motivate and inspire students from diverse backgrounds and experiences. Our science education program is dedicated to preparing scientifically and technologically literate students who can make positive contributions in the world.

The Science Education Program offers:

  • initial teacher licensure M.A.Ed. programs in biology, chemistry, physics, and earth science
  • doctoral program in science education

The initial teacher licensure programs are for State of Virginia licensure applicants only.
