The following faculty and staff members in the College of Liberal Arts and Human Sciences were winners of a 2021University Faculty/Staff Award:

Monique Dufour, collegiate assistant professor in the Department of History, received the Diggs Teaching Scholars Award.

Brandy Faulkner, collegiate assistant professor in the Department of Political Science and Gloria D. Smith Professor of Black Studies, garnered the Presidential Principles of Community Award.

Linda Fountaine, a retired executive secretary senior in the Department of History, received the Staff Career Achievement Award. Fountaine retired from Virginia Tech in 2020 after 40 years of service.

Edward Gitre, an assistant professor in the Department of History, received the Diggs Teaching Scholars Award.

Carol Mullen, a professor in the School of Education, received the Alumni Award for Excellence in International Research.

Shaily Patel, an assistant professor in the Department of Religion and Culture, received the Diggs Teaching Scholars Award.

Edward Anthony Polanco, an assistant professor in the Department of History, garnered the Presidential Principles of Community Award.

Katrina Powell, a professor in the Department of English and director of the Center for Refugee, Migrant, and Displacement Studies and the Center for Rhetoric in Society, was the recipient of the Alumni Award for Outreach Excellence.

John Ryan, professor and former chair of the Department of Sociology, who passed away in February, was a member of the Virginia Tech Urban Computing Team, which won the Alumni Award for Outreach Excellence in Team Achievement. 

Also recognized were Brenda Husser, an academic advisor in the Department of Sociology, and Nancy Nolen, enrollment services assistant in the School of Education, as recipients of the 2021 President’s Award for Excellence.
