Charles Nichols Recorded on Montana Area Music Association Online Album, Premiered Collaboration and Other Compositions

The singles “Rodinia” and “Shores of the Golden Beyond,” recorded by Modality with Charles Nichols, School of Performing Arts, on electric violin and computer, were released February 4 by the Missoula Art Museum and Montana Area Music Association on the online album Getting Thru: A Compilation posted on Bandcamp.
Nichols’ piece Time Garden: dawn replica, for computer music, accompanying motion capture dance in virtual reality, a collaboration with dancer Scotty Hardwig, Performing Arts, and creative coder Zach Duer, was premiered on March 26 at the IEEE VR Workshop on Sonic Interaction in Virtual Environments, streamed from Copenhagen, Denmark, and on April 25 at the SEAMUS Virtual National Conference, streamed from Charlottesville, Virginia.
In addition, Nichols’ composition Verdigris, for string quartet, was premiered and recorded on April 10 by The Cascade Quartet, at the Carpenters Union Hall in Butte, Montana.
He also premiered his single “Rooftops” with Modality on April 23, streaming audio and video between Blacksburg, Virginia, and Missoula and Butte, Montana, with broadcast from Stanford, California, for the Society for ElectroAcoustic Music in the United States Virtual National Conference TWELVE Event.
