Navdeep Sokhey, an assistant professor in the Department of Modern and Classical Languages and Literatures, was one of 60 scholars from among nearly 1,000 applicants awarded a 2022 American Council of Learned Societies Fellowship. The program supports exceptional scholarship in the humanities and interpretive social sciences that has the potential to make significant contributions within and beyond their fields. It focuses support on early-career, untenured scholars, many of whom are facing significant disruption to their research and career ambitions due to the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic. The fellowship award provides $60,000 to support Sokhey during her year-long research leave. The title of Sokhey’s project is “Personae of Bahrain: The Survival of a Dialect through Social Media.”
