Mark Barrow, a professor in the Department of History, received the 2023 Teaching Scholar Award for Scholarship of Teaching and Learning from the Center for Excellence in Teaching and Learning. The award, which is given to one recipient every three years, “recognizes scholarship of teaching and learning that involves rigorous examination and investigation of one’s own classes and/or academic programs at Virginia Tech and is designed to recognize teaching faculty members who have dedicated themselves to the pursuit of scholarship addressing higher education pedagogy in their teaching.” Barrow was recognized with the award in part for his sharing of pedagogical innovations such as “The Book Project,” an approach to the capstone seminar that turns undergraduate History majors into published authors.
