Command Sergeant Major (Retd) Sherwood "Clay" Gatts II

Command Sergeant Major (RET) Sherwood C. Gatts II is a native of Moundsville, West Virginia. He entered active service in February 1988 and attended One Station Unit Training at Fort Knox, Kentucky.

CSM (RET) Gatts awards and decorations include the Legion of Merit, Bronze Star (2 OLC), Meritorious Service Medal with (7 OLC), Army Commendation Medal with (3 OLC), Army Achievement Medal with (6 OLC), Good Conduct Medal 10th Award, Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal, Valorous Unit Award, Meritorious Unit Citation, Combat Action Badge, Senior Parachutist Badge, Drill Sergeant Identification Badge and Air Assault Badge. He is a recipient of both the Bronze and Silver Order of Saint George. His foreign awards include the Canadian Parachutist Badge and the French Commando Badge (4). He is also a lifetime member of the 82nd Airborne Division Association.

Mr. Sherwood Gatts retired from Active Duty on 1 March 2019 after serving over 31 years of service and has been employed as a Military Science Instructor by Management Analysis Technologies, Inc. supporting the 1st Brigade and United States Army Cadet Command Mission at Virginia Tech and Radford State Universities since July 16th 2019
