Captain Nicholas Grothouse

CPT Nicholas Grothouse was born in Dayton, OH. In 2011 he enlisted in the Ohio Army National Guard as a Horizontal Construction Engineer achieving the rank of Sergeant. He received his Bachelor of Science in Economics from Wright State University in 2015 and in 2018, earned his active duty commission from the Officer Candidate School of Fort Benning, Georgia, Branching Armor. Most recently, CPT Grothouse served as a Company Commander in 3-504 PIR (formerly 1-91 CAV), 173rd MBCT (Airborne).

CPT Grothouse has served in multiple positions throughout his career to include Motorized Reconnaissance Platoon Leader, Dismounted Reconnaissance Platoon Leader, the Assistant S3, and the Brigade Reconnaissance Officer in 3-4 CAV, 3rd IBCT, 25 ID and the Squadron Logistics Officer and Troop/Company Commander in 3-504 PIR (formerly 1-91 CAV), 173rd MBCT (A). 

He has participated in one combat tour to Afghanistan in 2014, and multiple training operations in Thailand, Slovenia, Latvia, Turkey, and the country Georgia.

His military education includes Armor Basic Officer Leader Course, Maneuver Captain’s Career Course, Ranger School, Jumpmaster School, Basic Airborne Course, Cavalry Leader’s Course, Army Reconnaissance Course, Expert Soldier Badge, Air Assault School, and the Maneuver Leader’s Maintenance Course. He earned a bachelor of science in economics from Wright State University.

His awards and decorations include the Meritorious Service Medal, Army Commendation (3), Army Achievement Medal (2), Army Superior Unit Award (2), Army Reserve Component Achievement Award (1), Ranger Tab, Expert Soldier Badge, Airborne Badge, Air Assault Badge, the German Schutzenschnur Badge, and is a member of the Honorable Order of St. George (Bronze) and Honorable Order of Saint Michael (Angelic).

CPT Grothouse is married to his wife, Lindsey and together they raise their daughter, Aria.
