Sergeant First Class Rashaun Ward

Sergeant First Class Shaun Ward was born and raised in Long Island, New York, through his senior year in high school. He enlisted into the North Carolina Army National Guard in 2008 and has most recently served in the West Virginia Army National Guard prior to setting his roots here in Virginia in October of 2024.
SFC Ward is honored to have been selected to join the prestigious New River Battalion and serves as one of the two On-Campus Liaisons for the Virginia Army National Guard here at Virginia Tech. He brings years of experience as a Production Street Recruiter and High School Recruiter in rural, suburban, and urban communities, and an On-campus Recruiter at previous colleges and universities in North Carolina and West Virginia.
Prior to serving as a Career Recruiter, SFC Ward had a very eclectic military background. For example, as a member in the North Carolina Army National Guard, he led as a Tank Commander, a Mounted Cavalry Scout Troop NCOIC, an Engineer Supervisor, Transportation Specialist, and MP. In the West Virginia Army National Guard, he served with the Army Interagency Training and Education Center.
SFC Ward’s most notable military education includes the Army Advanced Leader Course, the Common Faculty Development Instructor Course, the Army National Guard’s National Military Funeral Honors Trainer certification course, and the Army National Guard Recruiting & Retention Course.
His Awards and decorations include several ribbons related to the Operation Iraqi Freedom and Operation New Dawn Campaigns, individual Army wide and Statewide achievement medals, a Driver and Mechanic Badge, Rifle and Pistol Badges, and Recruiter related badges and awards. He is also a member of Kappa Lambda Chi, Military Fraternity, Inc. and the National Society of Pershing Rifles.
SFC Ward is proudly married to Summer Ward, ICU RN. The Wards currently have three children which consist of a teenage son named Silas, and two daughters named Cadence and Gracyn
