During its most recent meeting the Virginia Tech Board of Visitors conferred the emeritus title on the following faculty members in the College of Liberal Arts and Human Sciences: Nancy Metz, professor of English, was honored for her scholarly contributions to the fields of Victorian British literature, especially Charles Dickens studies, composition, pedagogy, and e-portfolios.  

She served as a member of the Editorial Board of the Dickens Studies Annual and the Byron Society of America.  Metz taught at both the undergraduate and graduate level, received the William E. Wine Award and the XCaliber Team Project Award, and was elected to the Virginia Tech Academy of Teaching Excellence.  

She held the positions of director of undergraduate studies and associate chair in the Department of English, as well as coordinator of the university writing program.  

Metz earned her bachelor’s degree from the University of North Carolina and a master’s degree and Ph.D. from the University of Michigan.
