Jessica Folkart is Professor of Spanish and Chair of the Department of Modern and Classical Languages and Literatures. A faculty member at Virginia Tech since 1998, her research centers on contemporary prose fiction in Spain. She has published three books: The Angle of Horror by Cristina Fernández Cubas: An English Translation and Critical Edition, co-authored with Michelle Geoffrion-Vinci (Fairleigh Dickinson University Press, 2024); Liminal Fiction at the Edge of the Millennium: The Ends of Spanish Identity (Bucknell University Press, 2014), and Angles on Otherness in Post-Franco Spain: The Fiction of Cristina Fernández Cubas (Bucknell University Press, 2002). She has also published many articles on Peninsular Spanish culture of the twentieth and twenty-first centuries in such journals as Hispania, Hispanic Review, Philosophy and Literature, and the Revista de Estudios Hispánicos. Folkart has won numerous teaching awards, including the William E. Wine Award for a career history of teaching excellence, the Alumni Teaching Award, Certificates of Teaching Excellence, and the Panhellenic Teacher of Excellence Award. She is a longstanding member of the Academy of Teaching Excellence at Virginia Tech.
