Charles Nichols, an associate professor in the School of Performing Arts, performing on electric violin and computer in his band Modality, premiered his composition Embodiment of the Witnessing telematically, streaming audio and video between Blacksburg, Virginia, and Missoula and Butte, Montana, for the Society for ElectroAcoustic Music in the United States Virtual National Conference TWELVE Event, streamed from Stanford, California. 

In July, the Spatial Forces Duo premiered Nichols’s composition Arrivals and Departures, for bass clarinet duo and recorded bass clarinets, at the Charlotte New Music Festival, where he also taught the Max Computer Music Workshop.
