Roxana Aras

Roxana Maria Arăş is a Visiting Assistant Professor in the History Department, with an affiliation in the Department of Religion and Culture. She completed her doctoral degree in anthropology and history at the University of Michigan, specializing in religion and Christian theology, Christian communities in the Middle East, and ethnographies of everyday life. She is currently working on her dissertation-based book manuscript, which examines intersections of Orthodox Christianity, sectarianism, and crisis in post-civil war Lebanon. Professor Arăş also holds a museum studies certificate from the University of Michigan, which has facilitated collaborations with cultural and archival institutions in both Lebanon and the United States. Her research interests are integral to her teaching methodology, which features multimodal pedagogies, socially engaged scholarship, and practices of knowledge translation across diverse publics.
