Renee Walsh is an Assistant Professor of Practice in residential environments in the Department of Apparel, Housing, and Resource Management at Virginia Tech. 

Renee is a licensed Interior Designer, NCIDQ Certificate holder and has professional accreditations in ASID, IDEC, and NKBA. She is an Assistant Professor of Practice, study abroad coordinator and teaches studio courses in residential interior design, history of architecture, furniture and interior design, and art and design for consumers at Virginia Tech. She holds a Master’s of Science and Bachelor’s degree in Interior Design from Florida State University. 

Research interests include Pedagogical Analysis: On-Line Web Course Creation for Interior Design Programs, Experiential Learning in Study Abroad Coordination and Inductive Analysis of History of Architecture and Interior Design. 

Renee is the owner and designer of Walsh CIRcle Designs specializing in commercial, industrial and residential interior design.

AHRM 1014 Intro to Design for Consumers

Development of new pathways course to meet assessment goals. It was

important indeveloping this course that it meet the expectations across a vast

differing student body. The students ranged from freshman to seniors and also

included students across different majors. The assessment goals were also a

priority in creating measureable and effective content.

AHRM 2014 Design for Consumers Studio

Development of new studio course as the sequential studio course to Intro to

Designfor Consumers. This studio course was created for design major students

to have thestudents apply design principles and elements to two-dimensional

and three- dimensional designs. Different visual mediums to create two-

dimensional and three- dimensional designs and practice techniques for

enhancing creativity in developing adesign.

Incorporation of new technologies or pedagogies.

AHRM 2014 Design for Consumers Studio

Integration of Adobe Suite design programs to provide the students with

introductory skills to carry over to subsequent courses. Programs include

Photoshop, Illustrator and Sketch Up. These programs enhance design skills

needed to support overall design.

Transition of this course to online due to pandemic demand for remote learning.

Meetings, critiques and feedback were conducted via Zoom and communication

wasa priority as studio coursework in an online environment can be difficult.

AHRM 1014 Intro to Design for Consumers

Transition of this course to online due to pandemic demand for remote learning.

Everyopportunity and technique to enhance online learning was studied,

developed and implemented. PowerPoint Lectures were narrated to replace in

class lectures. All information was converted to Canvas and organized for

consistency and ease of remote learning.

Further evolution of this course to a compact, effective, 3 week wintermester

course.All material was distilled and condensed to retain the quality of the course

in an editedtime frame.

RED 2654 Residential Environments
