Wornie Reed, Director of the Race and Social Policy Research Center and a professor of Africana Studies and Sociology in the Department of Sociology, received the Nannie B. Hairston Community Service Award for long-time service to the NAACP and the community. Reed was recognized for his civil rights and racial equity work as well as his leadership of the Dialogue on Race and the Law Enforcement Issue Group, both in the New River Valley. The award was presented to Reed at the 45th Freedom Fund Banquet of the Montgomery County–Radford City–Floyd County Branch of the NAACP, held online on October 16.
