The college notes with sadness the death of Stephen Prince, professor of cinema in the School for Performing Arts, on December 30, 2020.

The author of numerous books, articles, and book chapters on film history, theory, and criticism, Prince received the Alumni Award for Excellence in Research in 2012. He served as the editor of Projections: The Journal for Movies and Mind, was a former president of the Society for Cinema and Media Studies, and recorded numerous commentaries appearing on DVDs of films by prominent directors Akira Kurosawa and Sam Peckinpah.

Prince joined the Virginia Tech community in 1989.
