Toni Calasanti, Sociology, received a $425,000 National Institute of Aging award for her R21 grant proposal, “Gender, Sexual Orientation, and Spousal/Partner Caregiving in Later Life.” The study examines how 60 same-sex and heterosexual spousal and partner caregivers draw upon life-learned skills and resources based on their gender. The grant explores caregiving challenges, caregiver responses, and coping strategies. In addition, Calasanti is beginning her second three-year term on the United Nations International Board of the International Institute on Ageing.
