Internships

ahrm internship

Field studies or internships are an essential part of the preparation for your career. By participating in a field study, you apply the theory and knowledge you have learned in the classroom through hands-on experience in a professional setting.  While working under the guidance of an experienced professional, you get a unique opportunity to learn about yourself, your clients, your organizations, and your environment. Site supervisors act as role models, providing direction so that you can both observe and participate in the work of the organization.

You will work with a faculty member to identify an internship site and they will mentor you throughout the 180 hours of hands-on training.

Internship opportunities

You are encouraged to complete an internship for academic credit by registering for the AHRM Field Study. In recent years, students have interned with local businesses, national corporations, market research and advertising firms, and non-profit organizations. Examples include the Office of the Attorney General and the Better Business Bureau. For more information on how to pursue a field study, see the overview

An internship is a great way to network for jobs and gain work experience in the fashion industry. You will work with designers who make mood boards or buyers who create assortment plans and take markdowns. For more information on how to pursue a field study, see the overview.

Your internship with a property management company offers real-world experience, valuable career contacts, and a vehicle to explore different real estate markets across the country.  Compensation and housing are typically available. The annual Property Management Career Fair introduces you to industry professionals who are interested in hiring you for paid internships and full-time employment.

You will intern with professionals in the housing and design industry. If you are interested in graduating with the National Kitchen and Bath accreditation you will complete a field study with a kitchen or bath emphasis. For more information on how to pursue a field study, see the overview.
