Peace Studies and Violence Prevention Minor

What You'll Study

A minor in peace studies and violence prevention will help you develop many skills, including strong reasoning, problem-solving, communication, conflict-management, and organizational skills. It can be used in fields related to preventing war as well as those aimed at helping people have better quality of life. The minor includes inderdisciplinary coursework in philosophy, political science, humanities, geography, religion and culture, and history. Although most peace studies careers require at least a master's degree, a minor can lead to careers in mediation, social work, human rights advocacy, and related fields, or prepare you for pursing an advanced degree.

Students minoring in peace studies and violence prevention will be prepared for master's programs in political science, history, sociology, communications, and global studies.  Graduates are also prepared for law school.
