New Student Virtual Academic Advising & Course Registration - Summer/Fall

Professor and Student having class outside

Welcome to the College of Liberal Arts and Human Sciences!

Our Academic Advising Team is thrilled to welcome you—our newest Hokies.

As an incoming student, Virtual Academic Advising and Course Registration will prepare you for building your first-semester schedule and ensure you feel supported throughout the process. Below, you’ll find a timeline of key dates and important action items related to advising and course registration.

If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to reach out to Dr. Amanda Weaver, Director of Advising.

Advising and Course Registration Timeline

On June 5, you will receive three separate emails:
  • One from the College that will be sent to your VT email account (subject line, 'Virtual Advising in CLAHS').
  • A second inviting you to join our New Student Advising Canvas site. Be sure to complete any modules and required assignments.
  • A third asking you to schedule your summer advising appointment through Navigate.

  • On June 10, the Hokie Registration will open for incoming students. We highly encourage you to begin registering for classes once registration has opened because you can always adjust your schedule during and after your advising session.
  • Attend your virtual advising session with an academic advisor.
  • As needed, continue adjusting and finalizing your fall schedule.

Transfer Credit Action Items

All transcripts (with final grades) should be sent to the Office of Undergraduate Admissions through electronic transfer (i.e., Parchment) or through mail to the following address:

Office of Undergraduate Admissions, Virginia Tech, 925 Prices Fork Road Blacksburg, VA 24061

Transfer students: If you completed two or more years of a single foreign language in high school, you must send your official high school transcript to the Office of Undergraduate Admissions.

All score reports, including Advanced Placement (AP), International Baccalaureate (IB), College-Level Examination Program (CLEP), and Cambridge, should be sent to the Office of the University Registrar using the Virginia Tech school code 5859.

We encourage you to review the guides below to determine how your credits might transfer to Virginia Tech. You will also provide transfer credit information through your New Student Advising Canvas site so that your advisor can assist with any questions during your advising session.

You may be able to fulfill some Pathways General Education requirements through your transfer credit. Using the Pathways Guide for your entering year, you may search for the equivalent Virginia Tech course. If the course is not in the guide, the course is not approved as a specific Pathways concept. If the course is in the guide, the approved Pathways concept will be noted in the ‘Concept’ column. Be sure to discuss all transfer credits with your academic advisor because each majors’ Pathways requirements will vary, and you may need to take additional required general education courses for your major.
