New Student Virtual Academic Advising & Course Registration - Spring

Professor and Student having class outside

The College of Liberal Arts and Human Sciences' Academic Advising Team is excited to welcome our newest Hokies!

To our incoming students, Virtual Academic Advising and Course Registration is designed to prepare you for and support you in building your first-semester schedule. Below, you will find a timeline of dates related to advising and course registration in our college as well as important action items.

If you have questions about virtual academic advising and course registration, please email Dr. Amanda Weaver, Director of Advising.

Advising and Course Registration Timeline

Complete your New Student Checklist items, including your required virtual orientation modules through New Student and Family Programs.

By December 6, you should have received an email from the College to your Virginia Tech email account, as well as an invitation to join the College's New Student Advising & Registration Canvas site.

Note that course registration (Hokie Scheduler) will open for incoming Spring students on December 3. We highly encourage you to begin registering for classes once registration has opened because you can always adjust your schedule during and after your advising session. You may add new classes to your schedule until January 27.

Schedule your advising session through Navigate. Please monitor your email for an invitation to schedule your session, or access Navigate directly to schedule your appointment. If you are unable to connect with an advisor before classes begin on January 21, you may receive a registration hold on your account, which can affect your ability to adjust your course schedule. If you receive a hold, you will need to contact your assigned advisor about how to resolve the hold.

Transfer Credit Action Items

All transcripts (with final grades) should be sent to the Office of Undergraduate Admissions through electronic transfer (i.e., Parchment) or through mail to the following address:

Office of Undergraduate Admissions, Virginia Tech, 925 Prices Fork Road Blacksburg, VA 24061

Transfer students: If you completed two or more years of a single foreign language in high school, you must send your official high school transcript to the Office of Undergraduate Admissions.

All score reports, including Advanced Placement (AP), International Baccalaureate (IB), College-Level Examination Program (CLEP), and Cambridge, should be sent to the Office of the University Registrar using the Virginia Tech school code 5859.

Please review the guides below to determine how your credits might transfer to Virginia Tech. Understanding this information will be very important when meeting with an academic advisor, registering for your spring courses, and planning for your academic path.

You may be able to fulfill some Pathways General Education requirements through your transfer credit. Using the Pathways Guide for your entering year, you may search for the equivalent Virginia Tech course. If the course is not in the guide, the course is not approved as a specific Pathways concept. If the course is in the guide, the approved Pathways concept will be noted in the ‘Concept’ column. Be sure to discuss all transfer credits with your academic advisor because each major's Pathways requirements will vary, and you may need to take additional required general education courses for your major.

Please monitor the status of your submitted transfer credit by visiting HokieSpa, selecting the “Grades Menu,” and then selecting the “Transfer and Other Additional Credit” option.
