Historical Map of the route of the first transatlantic cable laid establishing hard line communications between Europe and the Americas

Transatlantic Studies explores the origins and evolution of transatlantic relations from European expansion to the present from a variety of disciplinary perspectives. We investigate the political, economic, colonial and neo-colonial, imperial, linguistic, cultural, religious, and security ties binding together states from both sides of the Atlantic. The evolution of transatlantic political, economic and security relations since 1945 looms large. Disciplines as varied as Anthropology, Cultural Studies, Languages and Literatures, Economics, Geography, History, International Relations, Law, Political Science, Religious Studies and Sociology are engaged in Transatlantic Studies.
