What You'll Study

  • 120 credit hours for a Bachelor of Science in Apparel, Housing, and Resource Management, including Virginia Tech's Pathways 
  • 32 credits of residential property management courses, including:
    • Multifamily Property Management and Operations
    • Managing and Leasing Commercial Properties
    • Contemporary Issues in Property Management
  • 25-27 credits of approved electives, selected from a variety of disciplines, including:
    • Communication

What is a Major in Property Management?

Our property management degree prepares you to tackle contemporary issues in property management and gives you hands-on experience with industry leaders. You will learn how to manage property, the differences between housing unit styles and resident populations, the challenges each demographic faces, business and management best practices, and residential technologies.

Gain first-hand industry experience with our collaborative partners located in metropolitan centers around the country. These opportunities offer you real-world experience, valuable career contacts, and a place to explore different real estate markets around the country. These positions are often compensated, and housing is typically provided.

The career fair provides an opportunity for you to connect with industry professionals regarding internships, summer employment, and full-time careers. The fair is held each March and is attended by 24 management firms, with an additional waiting list of eager employers.

See the World 

We offer a property management and housing study abroad course every other year (2020, 2022). You will have the chance to see and experience multifamily and commercial property management, current and historic residential design, and new ideas in housing technologies. We have visited Germany, France, and the Czech Republic on past trips.
