“Starcrossed,” written by Peter Gray and directed by Michael Alvarez, is a haunting, contemporary riff on the “Antigone” story that asks what it really means to find healing in an unknowable world. The play has multiple performances in February and early March.

Gone, her brother, and their circle of friends have a pact: the summer after they graduate high school, they’re hitting the road for a cross country stargazing adventure, culminating in an epic music festival and one last hurrah before adulthood. But they’re blindsided when Gone’s brother takes his own life, throwing their whole community into turmoil,  just as an unexpected and deadly virus forces them all into individual isolations.

As the world seems ready to crumble around them, Gone decides her motley crew isn’t going to be kept down by any setbacks. They’ll hit the road for a socially distanced adventure, gaze at all the stars they’d planned, pilgrimage to the site of a non-existent music festival, and fulfill their original promise by bringing along the ashes of her brother to scatter beneath the stars.

Wrestling with their wounds and insecurities, these four teenagers find themselves awash in a mystical natural landscape, alive in their own midsummer night’s dream, where pasts awaken, friendships grow, and new, radiant futures are written, like constellations in the sky.
