Application Details

  • Current students must complete and submit the CLAHS – Conditional Application in addition to the General Application to be considered for CLAHS scholarships.
  • Students may apply for as many college scholarships as they want — as long as they meet the requirements of each scholarship for which they apply.
  • Students may receive no more than two college scholarships in any one round of awards.

Hulick Scholarship for Leadership, Friendship, and Service

“A scholarship for third-year undergraduate (junior) students in the College of Liberal Arts and Human Sciences. Preference will be given to students who exhibit extraordinary characteristics of leadership, friendship, and service to campus, community, and humanity. Preference will also be given based on academic achievement and financial need. This application is open to current sophomores who will be a junior during the next academic year.”

Email: liberalarts@vt.eduThe James D. Moran Memorial Scholarship was established by Dr. James Moran in memory of his father, Mr. James D. Moran. This scholarship is for graduate students studying issues faced by individuals and families within various environments throughout the lifespan, including such areas as family systems, human development, nutrition, work/family relationships, health and well-being, and family/consumer resource management.

Selection Criteria: Must be graduate student.

Supplemental materials to include:

1. A 600-word essay describing your course of study and your actual or planned dissertation or thesis topic.

2. A letter of support from your major advisor. When requesting this letter, please have them submit it directly to the scholarship site.

The Faculty Campaign Graduate Student Scholarship was established by the faculty in the former College of Human Resources and Education to aid a graduate student in the College of Liberal Arts and Human Sciences.

Selection Criteria: graduate student, scholastic achievement, financial need (based on FAFSA submitted), and demonstrated leadership potential.

Supplemental materials to include:

1. A one-page essay delineating your contributions to the college, your publications (including those in press), and presentations made while representing the college and/or Virginia Tech.

2. A letter of support from a College of Liberal Arts and Human Sciences faculty member. When requesting this letter, please have them submit it directly to the scholarship site.

UNDERGRADUATE STUDENTS: COLLEGE OF LIBERAL ARTS AND HUMAN SCIENCES

The College of Liberal Arts and Human Sciences awards scholarships each semester for students participating in education abroad. Scholarships vary in value from $250-$2,000. 

Selection Criteria: Awarded to undergraduate students who plan to study abroad. Applicants must be current students in good academic standing with a primary or secondary major in the college. (Students with only a CLAHS Minor are not eligible). 

Before beginning your application:
-Have a copy of your unofficial transcript
-Know the estimated expense breakdown of your trip (i.e. tuition, room and board, airfare, etc.)
-Know the details of the program
-Know how many credits and course(s) you will be enrolled in during the semester of travel
-Prepare two essays

Essay 1: Justification for Support:  Write up to two pages addressing how this education abroad experience will complement your education and your future goals. Include in the essay a brief statement of your goals, why you chose this specific education abroad program, and a description of how these courses will contribute to your overall plan of study. You will copy your response into a text box on the form.

Essay 2: Statement of Need:  Write up to one page addressing why this scholarship is important for you to be able to participate in education abroad. You will copy your response into a text box on the form.   

Application Open Dates
Round 1:  August 5, 2024 - September 22, 2024 (for Winter/Spring/Summer study abroad)
Round 2: September 23, 2024 - February 2024 (for Summer/Fall study abroad)
