Apply for Co-Sponsorship Funding from the Virginia Tech Center for Humanities

The Center for Humanities provides financial support to a wide range of humanities-related events at Virginia Tech. Eligible programs include lectures, exhibitions, symposia, conferences, workshops, or any other initiatives designed to advance humanities scholarship, education, or outreach.

Priority will be given to requests that promise to accomplish one or more of the following:

• demonstrate the value of humanities scholarship and education

• foster intellectual community around humanities themes

• connect academic insights with public needs

• engage a range of audiences from the campus community and/or the general public Virginia Tech faculty, staff, and graduate students are eligible to apply for funding.

We are currently accepting applications for the Fall 2024 and Spring 2025 semesters. Applications will be considered on a rolling basis. To increase the likelihood of receiving funding, please submit by Friday August 30, 2024. Applications submitted after that date may still be eligible for consideration, depending on the availability of funds. The Center for Humanities is not typically able to fund more than 20% of the total expenses for any given event.

Graduate student applicants should supply a reference letter from one faculty member. Faculty and Postdoctoral applicants do NOT need reference letters.

Please include the following as a single PDF:

● Cover letter (1-page) Briefly describe the program/event; the anticipated size of audience/participants; the proposed date/s; a list of speakers (if relevant); and the significance for humanities scholarship, education, and/or outreach.

● Budget Provide a breakdown of your proposed budget, including the total estimated cost, the amount of funding requested from the Center for Humanities, and confirmed/projected funds from other units/organizations.

● Additional information If you wish to include additional information relevant to your request for funding, you may include an appendix.
