Author Erik Reece will visit Virginia Tech for a reading on Monday, April 4. The event will take place at 4 p.m. in 380 Shanks Hall.

Reece’s voice is a powerful one for the land, particularly the Appalachian region, and he emphasizes how environmental issues are also social justice issues.

His “Lost Mountain” documents the dismantling of Lost Mountain through the mining practice known as mountaintop removal.

Additional nonfiction works by Reece include: “Utopia Drive,”An American Gospel,”The Embattled Wilderness,” and “Practice Resurrection and Other Essays.

The event is sponsored by the Department of English in conjunction with the School of Performing Arts’ concert “Mosaic for Earth,” which incorporates Reece’s text into the libretto.
