Admissions Requirements

To apply to the graduate program, students must submit the Virginia Tech Graduate School online application.

Current and Admitted Students at Virginia Tech

Graduate standing at Virginia Tech (including those accepted by the Graduate School as Commonwealth Scholars) and an essay demonstrating interest in or experience related to a certificate in Material Culture and Public Humanities. Students seeking admission to the certificate program should consult with the Graduate Director or a member of the Steering Committee for the MA in Material Culture and Public Humanities.

Applicants New to Virginia Tech

Recommendations for admission to the certificate program for non-degree-seeking students will be made by our Graduate Admissions Committee, based on transcripts, letter of interest, and the minimal requirements specified in the Graduate Catalogue. These admissions criteria differ from our regular degree admissions in that they require neither the GRE nor letters of recommendation.

However, for the Commonwealth Campus program only, there is an Expedited admissions option that allows you to apply up to one week before classes begin. This admission is only good for one semester and you will need to reapply to take additional classes, so we recommend that you use this only if you have missed the regular application deadline. The Expedited application uses the same online process as the regular application.
