All About Carlene Arthur
Can you tell us a little about yourself?
I have worked at Virginia Tech for 23 years. Before coming to the Center for Gerontology, I worked for 10 years in the Dean’s Office in the College of Engineering.
How long did you work at the Center for Gerontology/Institute for Society, Culture, and the Environment prior to your retirement in July 2017?
13 years
What were some of the most interesting professional aspects of your position at the CfG?
I enjoyed working with the graduate students, coordinating the renovation and move of our offices from Wallace Hall to the ISCE building, and learning about research that the faculty are conducting.
Could you recount one of your favorite experiences when working at the CfG?
I enjoyed the Annual Center for Gerontology Celebration honoring the students who have completed the Graduate Certificate in Gerontology and who are receiving scholarships for the upcoming year. It is so nice working with bright young people completing their studies and going on to careers that will make a positive difference in our world.
What do you like to do in your free time?
I’m an avid gardener. I love to swim and do water aerobics at the aquatic center, hike with my and dog and friends, travel, and read.
