4:00 - 7:00 PM: Past, Present & Future: Athletics and Title IX at Virginia Tech

- Students in Megan Duncan's JMC 4254: Sports Media & Gender have organized this event to celebrate more than 50 years of Title IX sports at Virginia Tech. Three sessions of the event include:
- 4:00 - 5:00 PM. "The Past." A roundtable featuring:
- Lynne Krulich, first athletic scholarship for a women’s team at Tech (class of 1981)
- Anne Jones, first athletic scholarship for a women’s team at Tech (class of 1981); first full-time women’s tennis coach (1985-2000); Virginia Tech Sports Hall of Fame inductee
- Lisa Karlisch, volleyball athlete (class of 1992); second woman to have jersey retired by Tech; NCAA All-American; Virginia Tech Sports Hall of Fame inductee
- 5:00 - 6:00 PM. "The Present." A roundtable featuring:
- Kenny Brooks, women’s basketball head coach
- Georgia Amoore, women’s basketball athlete
- Lily Espino, co-founder of women’s ice hockey team and athlete
- Reyna Gilbert-Lowry, senior associate athletics director for inclusive excellence and alumni engagement
- 6:00 - 7:00 PM. "The Future." A mixer with student multimedia showcase including:
- Oral histories of women’s varsity and club sports at Tech
- Profiles of athletes & coaches who broke records and barriers
- Curated collections of historical photographs and documents that reveal the forgotten history of Tech’s women’s athletes
- Interviews with current athletes & experts about the current issues in collegiate sports
