A pulse of excitement rippled through the community when Virginia Tech announced plans to build an Innovation Campus in Alexandria, Virginia. As President Tim Sands’ public message revealed, new opportunities are on the horizon to expand the university’s reach and provide a highly skilled and multifaceted future workforce for Amazon and other technology-based companies.

The College of Liberal Arts and Human Sciences is in a unique position to provide that workforce with in-depth knowledge and critical-thinking proficiencies found within the humanities and social sciences disciplines. But with this endeavor on the Northern Virginia horizon, many questions arise. How will the college connect to this new campus? Who will be involved? And how can one take part in shaping the trajectory of the campus?

To provide answers, on March 29, Brandy Salmon, the Virginia Tech associate vice president for innovation and partnerships, will lead a presentation on the relationships between the college and the Innovation Campus.

“The presentation will be specific to our college’s involvement in the initiative,” said Rosemary Blieszner, dean of the college. “In addition to our faculty members, we encourage our graduate students with interests in Innovation Campus programs to join the conversation.”

Salmon, who is also the director of LINK, the Center for Industry Partnerships and LAUNCH, the Center for New Ventures, will discuss the roles the college can play in the Innovation Campus initiative and what the future holds for programs already in Northern Virginia.

The meeting will take place from 4 to 5 p.m. on March 29 in the McBryde Hall auditorium.
