Scholarships and Awards

In addition to scholarships offered by the university and the College of Liberal Arts and Human Sciences, we offer graduate program-specific scholarships in philosophy.

The Department is able to award between four and five graduate teaching assistantships each year. These provide in- and out-of-state tuition remission (except for fees), and a stipend of about $13,500 per year.Assistantships are available only to full-time students. New students are considered for assistantships only for entry into the program in the fall semester. Initial offers of assistantships will be made sometime between March 1st and April 1st. We will continue to offer assistantships later, as needed, until we have assigned all available assistantships. Currently, most of our students have assistantships. We work to help all students, with and without assistantships, to find additional sources of funding and support.

Duration of Funding

We normally offer 2 years of Assistantships for funded M.A students. Contracts are for one year, with renewal depending on progress in the degree program and satisfactory performance of assistantship duties.

Benefits of Assistantships

Assistantships provide these benefits:

-Stipend about $13,500 per year

-Tuition waiver

-Health insurance program (see the Graduate School benefits page for details)
