Department of Human Development and Family Science
Our department publishes cutting-edge research and trains students to work with individuals of all ages. We focus on child and adolescent development, adult development and aging, family studies, marriage and family therapy, and disabilities studies.
We offer a major that's flexible in content and has an emphasis on practical application. You will have the opportunity to take courses in childhood and adolescence, adulthood and aging, family relationships, and human services.
We also offer graduate programs. Child and adolescent development, family studies, adult development and aging, and marriage and family therapy are available on the main campus in Blacksburg, Virginia. Many of our students conduct research in the four centers that serve as living laboratories, including Adult Day Services, Child Development Center for Learning and Research, Family Therapy Center, and Center for Family Services. Graduates are well prepared for careers or graduate school in human services, health care, education, business, and government.
