Dr. Catalina Hernández-Cabal is a Colombian-American feminist scholar, artist, educator, and contemporary dance and improvisation practitioner. Her interdisciplinary scholarship and teaching center on a feminist perspective, particularly from communities of color, addressing topics such as place-making, embodied knowledge, interdependence, and pedagogy both within formal education and community settings. Catalina is dedicated to amplifying knowledge from minoritized and diasporic communities, examining the role of curation and creative expression as forms of agency within these communities. Additionally, she explores embodiment as a crucial avenue to understand people's resistances, genealogies, and kinships. She earned her PhD in Art Education from the University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign, with graduate minors in Gender and Women’s Studies and Latino/Latina Studies. As part of her commitment with feminist knowledge and pedagogy, Catalina’s research relies on partnerships, collaborations, and multiple forms of dialogue. The interdependence between her feminist and art-based scholarship and teaching is also reflected in work’s public circulation, which includes publications, paper presentations, academic and public workshops, and participation in different arts venues.
