There's something for everyone in NROTC. Whether you are interested in Surface Warfare, becoming a SEAL, the U.S. Marine Corps, or Naval Aviation, our societies and regular military training and competitions will keep you in the know and on top of your game.

In the fall, a team of midshipmen spend a Saturday competing against other top-notch university teams in events like:

  • Drill;
  • Swim;
  • Track;
  • Reconnaissance Challenge; and
  • Highland Games.

prolab

Professional Lab and Mission-Oriented Training (ProLab) is an integral and required adjunct to NROTC at VT. ProLabs introduce midshipmen to a wide range of contemporary and general military subjects in order to increase their professional knowledge, appreciation of military tradition, bearing, and discipline.

The NAS enables midshipmen to explore Naval Aviation through orientation trips to Naval Air Stations, flight simulations, and other exciting trips and networking opportunities.

Surface Warfare

The Surface Warfare Society supports individuals interested in learning more about the U.S. Navy Surface Force by taking orientation trips to the Virginia Tidewater area, touring surface combatant, amphibious, and command ships, and participating in realistic warfare and damage control training simulators.

All NROTC midshipmen and Officer Candidates are required to pass the Navy Third Class Swim Test. The required skills are honed and improved during NROTC physical training.
