 For maximum financial aid and scholarship consideration, submit your General Scholarship Application and FAFSA by January 22 every year.

Scholarship Steps

 

  • Complete the VT General Application and submit your FAFSA by January 22 each year for priority consideration.  
  • Scholarship Central helps connect you with scholarships in two ways: 
    • Automatic Consideration: You're automatically considered for scholarships that match your academic profile, major, and other eligibility criteria. No additional application is required.
    • Apply To: Some scholarships require additional materials, such as essays, resumes, or short responses. These opportunities will appear in Scholarship Central after you submit your General Scholarship Application.             
  • School of Education students – complete the School of Education Conditional Application, you’ll be prompted to do so after the General Application
  • Complete applications for any “Apply to” opportunities. Deadlines may vary. See Scholarship Central for dates.

 

  • Receive Your Award Notification 
    You'll receive an email with your scholarship award and the amount you've been awarded.
  • Complete the Acceptance Form 
    Accept your scholarship by completing a brief acceptance form. You'll also have the option to complete a FERPA release, which allows Virginia Tech to share your scholarship information with your family or others you designate. Completing—or choosing not to complete—the FERPA release will not affect your scholarship award, and you can update your preferences at any time
  • Submit a Thank You Letter
    Many scholarships are made possible through the generosity of alumni, friends, and donors. As a scholarship recipient, you'll be asked to write a thank you letter expressing your appreciation. We'll provide guidance and examples to help you get started.

Application Details

  • Students may apply for as many college scholarships as they want — as long as they meet the requirements of each scholarship for which they apply.
  • Student may receive no more than two college scholarships in any one round of awards.

The College of Liberal Arts and Human Sciences offers scholarships administered by the Dean's Office, as well as scholarships offered by individual schools and departments. The Division of Student Affairs administers a number of scholarships to currently enrolled undergraduate students who demonstrate outstanding leadership. These scholarship awards typically range from $1,000 to $4,000. A committee of Virginia Tech alumni will select the recipients of each scholarship.
