Jen Hanratty

Jen is a two-time Hokie, earning a bachelor’s degree in International Studies and a Master of Education in Educational Leadership and Policy Studies with a concentration in Higher Education from Virginia Tech. She also holds a graduate certificate in the Liberal Arts. Since joining Virginia Tech in 2006, Jen has supported students in a variety of roles, including positions in the Registrar’s Office, Dean of Students Office, and the Department of Political Science. She has also completed the Federal Advisor Certificate through the Partnership for Public Service to better support students interested in federal careers.

Jen approaches student advising as a collaborative relationship driven by empathy, kindness, and understanding.  Jen advocates for students to develop their purpose in their academic journey.  She is happy to meet students where they are to help them succeed in their academic and career goals while recognizing their needs, strengths, and challenges.  Through her involvement with Virginia Tech’s First-Year Experience program and careers and professionalism courses, Jen enjoys helping students navigate important transitions and prepare for their academic and career goals.

Outside of all things Virginia Tech, Jen enjoys traveling with her family to the beach, Disney, and many other locations whenever possible. She stays busy with her kids, cats, and dogs, including two energetic and fluffy corgis. Jen is also a proud Hokie Mom and a Marching Virginian (MV) Mom.
