Food Share Cabinet
Major Williams Food Share Cabinet
The Food Studies Program and the CLAHS Staff Association have established a Food Share Cabinet for students on the first floor of Major Williams, as of December 2025. This map indicates its location, between Rm. 104 and the Women's Restroom:
Who is this for?
Any students are welcome to use this, regardless of specific needs. Take what you need, share when you can. Cabinet will be open anytime building is open.
Supported by VT Engage's Food Access Initiatives, Food Share Cabinets are distributed mini-pantries designed to support short-term food access needs on-campus. These non-perishable pantries primarily provide easy-prep meals, snacks, and nutritious food options. They are placed in various locations across campus to broaden impact and reach.
How and what to donate?
For donations, any shelf-stable items and toiletries are welcome, but we especially encourage foods that students can eat that day while on campus. So, if you donate soups, canned pasta (like spaghetti-Os or ravioli), etc., it would be great if they have pop tops so students don't need a can opener.
You can drop off items in the green box next to the cabinet, put items (in an organized way, according to shelf labels) in the cabinet, or contact Courtney Thomas, copowell@vt.edu, if you'd like to make a monetary donation or coordinate something more specific.
Departments in Major Williams and CLAHS will be taking charge of one month of each semester to keep the cabinet stocked, to be coordinated by department liaisons.
