About EUROSIM

EuroSim is a comprehensive international model EU organized and run by the Trans-Atlantic Consortium for European Union Studies & Simulations (TACEUSS). The oldest student simulation of its kind, it was founded in 1988 at SUNY Brockport and takes place on an annual basis. This four-day exercise alternates being hosted at a US and European location. Each edition of the simulation aims at educating students about currently relevant and pressing issues within EU policymaking. EuroSim allows participants to gain the unique experience of what it means to be a decision-maker. Among the many benefits for participating student are gaining first-hand knowledge of European Union politics, using real-world policymaking skills, working and learning in a multicultural environment, and developing intercultural communication skills.

Conference Hotels and Getting Around

Hotels:

Students: the Courtyard Arlington Crystal City/Reagan National Airport, 2899 Richmond Highway, Arlington, VA, 22202

Faculty: the Renaissance Arlington Capital View Hotel, 2800 Potomac Ave, Arlington, VA 22202.

Both hotels are approximately one mile from campus.

The student and faculty hotels are about a ten minute walk from the Crystal City Metrorail stop (Blue and yellow line).

General Metrorail Hours of Operation (Not Station Specific) are:

  • Monday through Thursday, 5:00 a.m. until 12:00 a.m.
  • Friday, 5:00 a.m. until 2:00 a.m.
  • Saturday: 6:00 a.m. until 2:00 a.m.
  • Sunday: 6:00 a.m. until 12:00 a.m.

Rideshare and taxi service is also available, but substantially more expensive.

Reagan National Airport (for domestic travel or connecting international flights)

  • Both the faculty and student hotles offer a free shuttle from Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport (DCA), daily from 5 a.m. to 11 p.m. every 30 minutes.  You can contact the Front Desk of Courtyard Arlington Crystal City at +1 703-549-3434 or +1 703-413-1300 for the Renaissance Arlington Capital View Hotel, with additional questions.
  • By Metrorail the hotels are less than a 5 minute ride on the metro. If opting for this option, either take the yellow line from National Airport Metro Station towards Mount Vernon Square or take the blue line from National Airport Metro Station towards Largo. Either method requires no connections or changing of lines. The fare should cost around $2.25 and can be paid in person at a ticket station.

Dulles International Airport (best option for direct international flights) is about a one hour metro ride.

  • By Metrorail the hotels are about an hour away from the airport. If opting for this option, take the silver line from Dulles National Airport towards New Carrollton for about 45 minutes. Upon arrival at the Rosslyn Metro Station transfer to the blue line towards Franconia-Springfield. Ride for about 8 minutes until arrival at Crystal Springs Metro station. The fare should cost around $6.75 and can be paid in person at a ticket station.

BWI Airport (another possibility for direct international flights) is about one hour and 25 minutes taking the MARC train to Union Station and the Metrorail from Union Station to the Crystal City Metrorail stop.

  • If you choose to take public transportation the simplest manner would be to take the BWI Shuttle BWI Amtrak/MARC Shuttle Bus from the Airport to BWI MARC / AMTRAK Station. Once at the station you should take the MARC Penn Train Southbound to Washington. This should be about a 20/25 minute ride. Exit at New Carrollton, and transfer to the Metro following signs for the Orange or Silver train towards Ashburn or Vienna. Ride ten stops (about 22 minutes) to L'Enfant Plaza. Transfer there to the Yellow Line towards Huntington. Ride about 8 minutes and exit at Crystal City.

Union Station (Amtrak train and Greyhound bus) is about 30 minutes by Metrorail.

  • If you choose to take public transportation to the hotel from Union station the simplist path would be to board the Metro Red Line train towards Shady Grove. Exit after about 5 minutes at the Gallery Pl-Chinatown and transfer to the Yellow Line towards Huntington. Exit after about 13 minutes at the Crystal City Train Station.
