Our work touches many lives, from students seeking higher education in Kakuma Refugee Camps and in Afghanistan, to English Language Learners just down the street from campus. Your financial support helps defray the costs of background checks for our in-school volunteers, internships for EK students at Virginia Tech, publishing our classes’ research, and more. Any contribution is appreciated and has a real impact.
How Your Gift Makes a Difference
$25 provides one student with a background check in order to safely volunteer with local K–12 English language learners, expanding educational support for young students while preparing Virginia Tech students to serve diverse communities.
$100 supports the publishing of 25 copies of one of our undergraduate research projects for distribution to partners both in the United States and in Kenya
$300 supports an honorarium for a writer to share their voice through our blog - amplifying stories like those of VT student Neiver or refugee poet Kidi, ensuring lived experiences shape public understanding.
$500 supports an undergraduate or graduate student to travel to a professional conference to present new research on immigration and refugees, opening doors to mentorship, national networks, and career opportunities in the field.
$500 brings Latinx students from Galax High School to campus through the Primeros Pasos mentoring program, helping them see themselves in higher education and building pathways to college access.
$1,250 funds the printing of a new volume of Roots & Resettlement, sharing powerful words and images created by migrants and refugees and preserving their stories for broader community engagement.
$3,500 makes it possible for a CRMDS team member to travel to the Kakuma Refugee Camp in Kenya to teach and mentor students in the Elimisha Kakuma program, strengthening educational opportunity in one of the world’s largest refugee communities.
$5,000 funds a year-long undergraduate internship, empowering students like Ajier, Nyanlueth, or Ruun to gain hands-on experience advancing research, storytelling, and community engagement around migration and displacement.
