Rebecca Meisel serves as the bassoon instructor at Virginia Tech. She also teaches at Radford University, which includes instructing for the Governor’s School for Humanities and Visual and Performing Arts summer residential program.
In addition to her positions at the university level, Meisel operates a thriving music school, Blue Mountain Music Studio, located in Roanoke, VA. Here she offers private instruction in piano and bassoon to students from preschool age through adults.
She performs with the Roanoke Symphony Orchestra as a substitute bassoonist, the Lynchburg Symphony Orchestra, and the University-Shenandoah Symphony Orchestra at Washington & Lee University. she frequently joins various other ensembles around the area for special performance events throughout the year.
Meisel began her study of the bassoon with Anthony DeAngelis, of the Syracuse Symphony Orchestra. She went on to study with renowned Eastman professor emeritus K. David Van Hoesen. Later, she earned a Bachelor of Music degree in bassoon performance from the Eastman School of Music, University of Rochester, NY, under the direction of John Hunt. She also holds a Master of Music degree in music education from Boston University.
