David Lansang

Research interests: culture; digital sociology; qualitative methods; media studies

Bio: David is a first-year doctoral student from San Antonio, Texas. His research interests initially stemmed from conducting a qualitative research project on Japanese anime during his undergraduate years, and this development continued throughout his time as a master's student, where he eventually studied individuals from both in-person and online anime communities for his graduate thesis ("Exploring Group Dynamics Within Anime Communities"). On a broader level, David's research deals with culture, particularly cultures in the digital realm, as he explores ways in which these cultures differ or resemble those in the physical world. Having participated in a wide variety of cultures in both online and offline contexts growing up, David's research goal is to help illuminate as many of these cultures as he can through the power of storytelling.
