Bre Grace, PhD is a sociologist of migration who specializes in critical humanitarian aid and refugee studies. Her work explores citizenship and belonging, refugee experiences of state-based resettlement after state-sponsored torture, the political economy of humanitarian aid, and transnational refugee family relationships after resettlement. Currently she is working on a team-based project (with Ben Roth, Jessica Darrow, and John Doering White) that explores how care is operationalized for unaccompanied immigrant children in detention centers, legal systems, child welfare-like settings, and in other social service-based settings across multiple countries. She is also working on a collaborative project (with Caroline Nagel) that examines the work of volunteers in the US refugee resettlement program.
Dr. Grace’s work has been published in journals such as the New England Journal of Medicine, Journal of Refugee Studies, Ethnic and Racial Studies, Journal of Ethnic and Migration Studies, and more and her research has been funded by Andrew Mellon Foundation, Fulbright IIE, Fulbright-Hays, the US Department of State, the US Department of Education, and Kiphart Foundation, among others.
