Applying for Graduate Assistantships and Fellowships
The STS department has a limited number of graduate assistantships and fellowships available for students applying for full time study on the Blacksburg Campus. We normally offer 4 years of assistantship for funded PhD students, and 2 years for MS students. Funding beyond those terms is offered on a case-by-case basis, as funds allow. No separate application is required for Science and Technology in Society Graduate Assistantship positions and fellowships.
Degree-seeking students must include a $75 fee with their application, though check to see if you qualify for a waiver or reduced fee.

*Fall: April 1

* Students seeking assistantships for funding should submit all required admissions materials by February 1 for full consideration.
However, for the Commonwealth Campus program only, there is an Expedited admissions option that allows you to apply up to one week before classes begin. This admission is only good for one semester and you will need to reapply to take additional classes, so we recommend that you use this only if you have missed the regular application deadline. The Expedited application uses the same online process as the regular application.
